Ecological Surveys & Compliance

Ecological Survey PhotoJFNew has completed a number of endangered species surveys and has botanists and biologists on staff who perform surveys for plants, the Indiana Bat and other mammals, reptiles, mussels, birds, and insects. We also regularly provide habitat assessments for endangered species to determine the potential for the presence of the species of concern. This habitat assessment is often used as critical information for the reviewing agencies to decide if a full survey is required. We can also provide habitat restoration, mitigation, and management plans for rare, threatened, and endangered species. More

Ecological Assessments

Ecological AssessmentsJFNew provides ecological assessments according to state and EPA protocols. Site investigations include analysis of wetlands; streams; rare, threatened, and endangered species habitats; plant communities and other ecological features. As appropriate, these services can be provided independently, simultaneously, or in conjunction with a broader range of studies associated with the requirements of federally funded projects.

National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Documentation

JFNew can prepare Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and NEPA documents. Whether the project is a roadway, private development, or airport, we can provide the ecological expertise to complete the assessment for aquatic or terrestrial resources.

Critical Habitat Assessments

ThistleJFNew can provide habitat assessments for endangered species to determine the potential for the presence of the species of concern. This habitat assessment is often used as critical information for the reviewing agencies to decide if a full survey is required. We can also provide habitat restoration, mitigation, and management plans for rare, threatened, and endangered species. JFNew is currently contracted with the Indiana DOT to provide these services on an on-call basis. Additionally, JFNew's Restoration Management Division and Native Plant Nursery can be utilized to implement the mitigation needs.

Natural Resource Damage Assessments

JFNew can evaluate the basis and merit of natural resource injury claims. We use our expertise to identify the likely causes of natural resource injury when multiple potential responsible parties (PRPs) or both regulated and unregulated sources exist.

Tree Surveys

Tree SurveysJFNew provides quantitative and qualitative botanical and tree surveys to meet the requirements of regulatory agencies and town and village ordinances throughout the Midwest. We have biologists on staff with expertise in botany and forestry. As dictated by the regulatory requirements, we can inspect the site and identify individual species as well as plant communities and provide a report documenting our findings and the data collected.
